Where to look
Under birch and conifers; a woodland species worth enjoying with your eyes.
What to notice
Red to orange cap with pale warts; white gills and stem, ring and swollen base. Rain can wash the warts away.
Look closer: similar mushrooms
Other Amanita species, especially young or weathered specimens. Never infer safety from a missing ring or missing spots.
